Subject: Last Basic Sailing Class Cooper Boating this weekend.....
(Posted on Oct 27, 2010 at 06:11PM )
We're running the last Basic sailing class starting Wednesday this week.   Not just the last course for the year, but the last class with the current format.  We're breaking this course info modular components for a couple reasons.

The new format is CREW and BAY SKIPPER.  Both courses span less than a week in format and have different objectives.

The reasons to change are to make the course shorter for ease of scheduling and to better match client objectives as they take to the water.   New sailors with us have shared that courses drawn out over many weeks make it hard to balance with their busy lives.  In addition, part of having fun on the water is having the level of experience  that matches the level of responsibility.  Many people want to just crew aboard the boat and have fun.

Want to crew aboard a bigger boat?  Do the CREW module and then our CRUISING NUTS & BOLTS weekend.  Want to be a skipper on the day sailing boats and cruise English Bay?   Then proceed to the BAY SKIPPER after CREW.   Feel free to get some practice as a crew member in between.  Want to get to the bigger cruising boats?  Add the third module of CRUISING NUTS & BOLTS.

Both CREW and BAY SKIPPER run two evenings in the classroom during the same week and the on the water component involves the entire weekend that same week.

Subject: Welcome Jamie Johnston to Cooper's Operations
(Posted on Aug 24, 2010 at 06:40PM )
We are pleased to announce that Captain James Johnston will be joining Cooper Boating effective September 1st, 2010.  James, or Jamie to his colleagues and friends, has over 15 years experience on power vessels up to and exceeding 100 feet, has worked in the operations area of the marine trade and is a qualified CYA Power Boat Instructor Examiner.

We also wish to inform you that Roger Boulet will be departing Cooper Boating at that time.   Early this year Roger informed us that he would move on after the current season to pursue his career as an independent marine technician, and while we are pleased for Roger we will all miss his energy.

The addition of Jamie to the Cooper crew will fill the role that Roger is vacating, with his background leading certain local yachts and a management of a local luxury yacht service department.  In addition, his certification to several standards as an instructor examiner allows continued growth of the Cooper Boating school.

You will see that Jamie also enjoys sailing - evidenced by this photo.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Roger well in his future endeavours and to welcome Jamie to the Cooper Crew.

Subject: New 2011 Lagoon 400 - A Great Opportunity!!!
(Posted on Aug 6, 2010 at 02:04PM )
Cruising catamarans have been growing in popularity around our cruising waters over the past few years with good reason.  These vessels are spacious, comfortable, and stable.  They also feature a shallow draft and excellent performance characteristics.  One of the world's leading luxury catamaran manufacturers is Lagoon of France.  This beautiful Lagoon 400, model year 2011 with various updates, is due to arrive in Vancouver in the late fall and is available for shared ownership to the right couple.  She includes all equipment required for either short or distant cruising.  Please contact either Bosuns Yacht Sales or One 4 Yacht Fractions for further specifications, pricing, and other details.  This wonderful lifestyle   opportunity is available for a limited time only.

Subject: Own a 46 Foot Bavaria in Sidney
(Posted on Jul 6, 2010 at 06:35PM )
Here's a great chance to own a late model 46' sailboat in beautiful Port Sidney.  This boat is spotlessly clean and just thoroughly tested after her re-assembly from a road trip across the continent.  She sailed over from Europe last winter to Miami and has the size and the equipment for another adventure - Alaska?

The boat is at the dock here at Granville Island and we have long term moorage available at beautiful Port Sidney if someone acts fast AND she is owned by a GST / HST registrant so one can buy the boat for the charter program and claim the GST / HST back - vs. the brand new tax on 'Designated Property' that applies specifically to boats that are not owned by a GST / HST registrant.

Contact Roger to arrange a showing of this great vessel.   Details are on the brokerage site.

Subject: 'Lady Van' back in Vancouver
(Posted on Jun 23, 2010 at 12:09PM )
We've been watching the transformation and the 1928 R Class Yacht "Lady Van" for a while now.

She was re-christened this week at a well attended ceremony at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.  The restoration nearly complete now, the story will continue with the battle over a very old trophy this fall - the Alexandra Cup (1906) - and the drama between Vancouver, Seattle and Sidney is already entertaining to say the least.   The first 'brandishing of the swords' will occur at the RIPS regatta in August, where a number Cooper crew members will be helping out with race management (make sure to let us know if you want to help with this and get the best seat in the house for seeing the battle of these classic yachts)

We are close to many of the people involved in this boat and are delighted to see this magnificent boat back in the water and soon to sail again in English Bay.
Subject: Coast Hunter arrives in Port Sidney
(Posted on Jun 4, 2010 at 08:40PM )
Coast Hunter, the massive and beautiful Queenship 64 has arrived at our Port Sidney base and final touches are underway after an extensive list of upgrades this past winter.   Coast Hunter is very well equipped, luxurious and truly a one of a kind boat in these waters.   This vessel is available under bareboat arrangements. Very experienced qualified skippers* will enjoy the autopilot, on board computers and other features.   With with the myriad of systems and toys aboard, we would strongly suggest less experienced folks also choose to add a crew member and / or skipper to take charge of this vessel.   Contact the office or drop by Port Sidney today!

* qualifications / experience would stem  from owning or having owned or extensively operated vessels this size with proper insurance in place
Subject: Lagoon 400 "Amritha" joins the fleet in Sidney
(Posted on May 23, 2010 at 04:43PM )

The latest addition to the sailing fleet is "Amritha", a brand new 2010 Lagoon 400 to sail from our Sidney location at the beautiful Port Sidney marina.  Final commissioning and sea trials are underway, but she will soon be at her new home.  This is quite likely the largest 40 foot boat we have ever seen.  She has three large staterooms each with their own head, plus accommodation in the salon and forward through the foredeck hatches for your able crew.  This boat is loaded with options.

We are particularly impressed with the lines which lead to a central station to port so that tacking can be done without moving from side to side (or with less crew)  Electric winches lighten the load and help pull up the square top mainsail, a real plus in those light wind summer days.

Contact our office today to get started booking this fine vessel.

Subject: May LOOONG Weekend Flotilla
(Posted on Apr 22, 2010 at 08:06AM )
Basic details and destinations are up for the May LOOONG Weekend 5 day flotilla.  At this popular time, boat selection is limited, so act fast if you want to join this event.  Looks like 5 boats are planning to join this flotilla so far.

Subject: We have moorage for your dream boat
(Posted on Mar 10, 2010 at 10:02AM )
Perhaps your ship has come in?  To enjoy boat ownership these days, you first must find moorage for your boat.  Well, Cooper Boating has a couple slips available, especially special in that we have a couple spaces at the world class PORT SIDNEY marina for boats coming into our management program.   Management boats offset ownership costs with charter revenue in our proven program.  For more information on yacht management with Cooper, contact Colin.

We are also happy to help you with the purchase of your boat.  One coming shortly is a Bavaria 46 FOUR CABIN.  Contact Roger for information on this boat.

Subject: Stealth Yachts - BC?
(Posted on Mar 4, 2010 at 08:19AM )
We saw the video for the HYSUCAT and it reminds us of our most impressive boat test drive EVER.  A few Cooper crew members took off (literally) in Annapolis, MD and flew around the Chesapeake with Ian Stopforth and Dave Beavis from Voyage Charters of Annapolis and BVI's and we were stunned by the stability and performance of this flying catamaran.  Ian also manages STEALTH YACHTS, builders of these amazing craft.

Riding on some carefully engineered foils sitting between two hyper-efficient hulls, the cat rises up and allows the surface piercing propellers to work their magic.  Here we were driving around in this beautiful condominium, passing some very sleek boats that just aren't used to being passed.  This boat/plane... whatever you would call it... is the most amazing ride and it corners 'like it is on rails'.  Wake jumping... not really, the boat blew through some boat wake from some large boats and it was barely noticeable.

Amazing technology and it is now available to be licensed for construction right here in BC.  Contact Colin to learn more!  Oh, and don't forget that Cooper is happy to help you arrange all details of your BVI experience as well.  Contact Marla for more information - she just got back from checking out all the favourite sites down there!
